Reliability and Maintainability Center
Who We Are and What We Do
The Reliability and Maintainability Center (RMC) is an industry-supported center within the College of Engineering at The University of Tennessee, drawing support from a diverse range of companies, organizations and industries. Initiated in 1996 with 12 original companies participating, the RMC continues to grow and now has over 30 member companies and organizations. The RMC bridges between industry and academia to provide education, research & development, and information exchange in the application of reliability and maintenance engineering tools and concepts.

Our Mission
The Reliability and Maintainability Center (RMC) exists to advance reliability and maintenance education and practices within the academic and industrial communities. We create opportunities for member companies, students, faculty, and industry to achieve exceptional value through a comprehensive program of education, research, and information sharing.
Our Vision
The RMC is the trusted and premier source of people, knowledge, and research.
- Students and faculty are sought after for their expertise in reliability and maintenance.
- Conferences and education are recognized as the highest quality source of reliability and maintenance best practices information.
- Implementation of research generates solutions that are effective at solving problems.

Program Areas
Education
The RMC offers a wide spectrum of educational opportunities for undergraduate students, graduate students and working professionals. At the undergraduate level, UT offers a University "Minor in Reliability and Maintainability Engineering", a College "Certificate in Reliability & Maintainability Engineering", and opportunities to gain experience through Reliability and Maintenance internships. Click Here for more information about these options.
For graduate students and working professionals, we offer both a Graduate Certificate and a Master's Degree through both traditional on-campus and non-traditional off-campus distance learning, along with various seminars and short courses. Click Here to learn more about each of these programs.
Research & Technology Assesment
Being part of a major Research University, the RMC is very well positioned to conduct research and technology assessment projects recommended by its industrial members and supported by its members and/or third party funding. Projects are conducted by faculty and students at the University of Tennessee, and with collaborating universities and national laboratories such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Information Sharing
The RMC sponsors regular best pratice sharing member meetings, an annual open-to-the-public conference and occasional short courses. We also publish a quarterly newsletter highlighting current developments in the field of reliability and maintenance along with news of the RMC's activities.
Our annual conference, MARCON (Maintenance and Reliability Conference), serves as an annual forum for nationally and internationally recognized specialists to exchange information on new reliability and maintenance engineering methods and on practical applications of advanced techniques. This conference has something for all participants, from beginners to old pros.
Business Support and Alliances
In all we do, the RMC seeks to build bridges between industry and academia, through the support of businesses and the building of alliances among member companies and organizations, partnering institutions and the University. The RMC provides learning, meeting and networking opportunities, both formal and informal, with companies and with individual members. The RMC stands ready to serve you.
